Apium M220 is a 3D printer designed for implant-grade PEEK materials
Match with Evonik's medical implantable PEEK material
Evonik Industries has launched implant-grade polyetheretherketone (PEEK) filament for 3D printing of medical implants. Therefore, Evonik has set a new standard for the development and manufacture of custom polyetheretherketone implants that comply with ASTM F2026 (Standard Specification for Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) Polymers for Surgical Implants) Graded PEEK filament through an additive manufacturing process enables 3D printing of custom polyetheretherketone implants.
PEEK wire is divided into implantation grade and scientific research grade
In addition to implant-grade products, Evonik also offers scientific-grade PEEK wires. Research grade PEEK wire has the same performance as implant grade, except that it does not provide the documents required to apply for a medical device marketing authorization. This provides a cost-effective way to study and adjust process parameters for high-performance polymers on established 3D printing equipment.
Both Apium and Evonik are headquartered in Germany, which also allows for closer cooperation between the two parties. In the implant-level material testing stage, M220 provided a series of pre-test printing samples, which also played a crucial step in the printing quality of the material. M220 has a unique aseptic printing environment, new extrusion technology, reducibility, and safety, so that it will not affect the biocompatibility and sterility of implantable PEEK materials during the printing process.
